Competition wear is about presenting yourself and your horse at your best — and meeting the dress code of your discipline. The good news: you don’t need a new wardrobe for every show. A few well-chosen pieces cover most classes.

What to Look For

• Show jackets: classic navy, black, or tweed — check your discipline’s rules first
• Show shirts and ties: stock ties for dressage and showing, collared shirts for jumping
• Breeches: white or cream for dressage, any dark color for jumping
• Boots: polished tall boots or matching gaiters

Our Advice

Buy competition wear that fits properly — judges notice, and so will you when you’re comfortable. For children, consider second-hand show wear; it’s often barely worn.
